Arturo Brito
Executive Director
Arturo Brito, MD, MPH

Arturo leads the Foundation, managing its funding priorities and strategic partnerships. He is a pediatrician with a public health background and particular expertise in program development for vulnerable populations. Before joining the Foundation, he was Deputy Commissioner, Public Health Services, of the New Jersey State Department of Health from 2011-2017. Previous leadership positions included serving as Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President at the Children’s Health Fund and overseeing the South Florida Children's Health Project. Early in his career, he was a practicing pediatrician in Southwestern Alaska and in South Florida.

Shannon Ayers
Senior Program Officer
Shannon Ayers, PHD, MS, MEd

Shannon leads early childhood initiatives at the Foundation and works on projects at the intersection of health and early childhood. She has extensive and varied experience in the early childhood field, spanning from the classroom, to the state Department of Education, to national systems improvement. Before joining the Foundation, she was an Associate Research Professor at the National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers University where she led research, technical assistance, and professional development projects.

Kim Boller
Chief Strategy and Evaluation Officer
Kimberly Boller, PHD, MS

Kim coordinates work across the early childhood and health portfolios, providing strategic direction and leading the Foundation’s evaluation and learning agendas. Kim is a cognitive and developmental psychologist with more than 20 years of experience conducting policy and program evaluations. She has studied early childhood systems in more than 10 countries. Her work has focused on the effects of child care and early education initiatives, parenting programs, and policy on children and families. Before joining the Foundation, Kim was a Senior Fellow at Mathematica Policy Research and Senior Advisor for Learning and Innovation at the Early Learning Lab.

Maureen Deevey

Maureen Deevey

Maureen is responsible for the Foundation’s work with Community Health Coalitions as vehicles for improving population health, and serves as the co-lead on the development of a health system Innovation Center. She also is responsible for initiatives that focus on the value of data and data analysis in driving improvements in healthcare. Maureen has many years of experience in public sector policy, program development, and operations, with expertise in implementing complex large-scale operations.

Michelle Fouks
Chief Fiscal Officer
Michelle Fouks

Michelle is responsible for all the Foundation’s fiscal activities as well as most Personnel matters. She oversees internal financial operations and ensures the integrity of the Foundation’s funding processes. Michelle has more than 35 years of finance experience with a focus in the government health and human services sector. Before joining the Foundation, Michelle was the Executive Deputy Commissioner of Finance at the New York City Human Resources Administration, responsible for the oversight of all fiscal and claiming activities, including managing a budget exceeding $9 billion.

Kay Hendon
Senior Program Officer
Kay Hendon, MSW

Kay leads initiatives at the Foundation focused on early care and education. Her priority issues are capacity and quality of infant toddler care in centers and home-based care. She is experienced in the areas of child care, child welfare, and neighborhood services. Kay has held leadership positions in both the nonprofit and public sectors and has spearheaded public policy initiatives. Before joining the Foundation, she was the Associate Commissioner for Child Care Operations for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services.

Raquel Mazon Jeffers
Senior Program Officer
Raquel Mazon Jeffers, MA, MPH

Raquel leads the Foundation’s work on tele-health, population health, and the intersection of health and early childhood. She has many years of experience in public health and healthcare. Much of her work has focused on behavioral health, maternal child health, and delivery system reform for vulnerable populations. Before joining the Foundation, Raquel was the Deputy Director of Mental Health and Addiction Services in the New Jersey Department of Human Services.

Barbara Kang
Senior Program Officer
Barbara Kang, MA, EdM

Barbara leads the Foundation’s work to improve the integration of behavioral health in primary care. She is also leading the Foundation’s efforts to stimulate innovation in healthcare service delivery. Barbara has extensive private and public sector experience in developing and managing education, social, and human services programs. Before joining the Foundation, she led multiple grant-funded programs in the Department of Psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center.

Colette Lamothe-Galette

Colette Lamothe-Galette, MPH

Colette leads early childhood and health initiatives at the Foundation. She has more than 14 years of experience working for the New Jersey Department of Health in a number of roles – most recently as Director of Population Health. ​Her areas of expertise include providing leadership and management of health improvement planning, health disparities study, policy development and implementation, quality improvement, performance management, cross-sector collaboration and direction of population health data analytics. Before joining the Department, Colette was employed as a Survey Specialist at Mathematica Policy Research in Princeton, NJ.

Kevin McManemin
Communications Manager
Kevin McManemin, MS

Kevin manages the Foundation’s online and offline communications vehicles and directs its media relations efforts. Kevin brings with him 15 years of experience working primarily in non-profit communications, including health-focused non-profits the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and Columbia University’s Institute on Medicine as a Profession. He most recently worked as Director of Communications at All Souls Church in New York City.

Grace Munoz
Administrative Assistant
Grace Munoz

Grace provides administrative support to the Nicholson Foundation team. Grace has worked in both the public and private sectors, including many years with the City of New York.

Linda Refi
Office Manager
Linda Refi

Linda assists the Executive Director in administering Foundation operations. She also assists the Chief Fiscal Officer in fiscal aspects of grant management. She is experienced in fiscal management in the public and private sectors. Before joining the Foundation, she was Administrator of Business Operations for the New Jersey Department of Children and Families.

Anne Brown Rodgers
External Communications Writer
Anne Brown Rodgers

Anne is the Foundation’s staff writer. Anne has been a health and science writer and editor for many years. She works with a variety of Federal agencies and other organizations, focusing primarily on public health issues such as nutrition, physical activity, childhood obesity prevention, pediatric preventive care, and primary care service delivery.

Fred Sambataro
Fiscal and Administrative Director
Fred Sambataro, MBA

Fred works with the Foundation’s program staff to ensure accuracy and completeness of fiscal reports from funded organizations and contractors, which includes conducting program audits and site visits. Fred has extensive experience in fiscal management in the public sector. Before joining the Foundation, he was the Administrator of Business Operations for the New Jersey State Division of Youth and Family Services. 

Public Health Fellow
Christina Chesnakov, MPH

Christina conducts background research in areas of interest to the Foundation, including establishing a public health institute in New Jersey and collaborating with Rutgers’ Initiative for Women Leadership in co-authoring case studies on women leaders in the health field. Christina completed her MPH at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health in 2018 with a certificate in child, youth, and family health.

Communications Intern
Madison McHugh

Madison advances the Foundation’s communications efforts through social media marketing and website management as well as writing, editing, and conducting research on materials for public distribution. Madison worked in the non-profit and higher education sectors before joining the Foundation. She is currently enrolled in a dual degree program at Seton Hall University to earn a MBA in Marketing as well as a MA in Diplomacy and International Relations.

Public Health Research Intern
Wesley Wei

Wesley works with the Executive Director and Senior Program Officers to research and provide background on potential projects related to population health, maternal and child health. He collaborated on a strategic plan to end chronic and veteran’s homelessness in Newark. Before joining the Foundation, Wesley worked with various organizations, including Johnson and Johnson Health Care Systems, Virtua Health, the Rutgers Institute for Health, and the New Jersey and Pennsylvania court systems. Wesley is currently a MPH student at Rutgers University specializing in Health Systems and Policy.
